Since this is the first issue of From The Producer’s Desk, allow me to briefly explain what this section of The BW Printing Press is all about.
In short, From The Producer’s Desk is the space that I use to chronicle what it’s like to be a podcast producer/host.
My podcasting journey began in late high school with my podcast Digging Deep. Digging Deep was a podcast that was about critical thinking. I presented the facts and invited listeners to form their own opinions. Some of the episodes were about Abortion, Black History, and Black Lives Matter. (Sidenote: You can purchase these episodes for $2.99 each or $5.99 for the entire collection on my merch store.)
Why did I start podcasting?
Well, at the time that I started podcasting I not only had an itch to do more public speaking, but podcasting was also a highly recommended way of landing more public speaking engagements. So, I started podcasting so I could have more opportunities to do public speaking, but I continued with podcasting because of the process… the ability to make something unique that challenged people’s thinking.
In fact, when I started Digging Deep Podcast, I didn’t have any fancy equipment, nor could I afford it. But luckily, the Anchor (now known as Spotify for Podcasters) app was launched maybe months before I started. Honestly, had Anchor not been an option, I probably would have never started podcasting because I had long wanted to start podcasting; however, I never thought I would be able to build the setup necessary.
So, thanks to Anchor I was able to start podcasting using nothing but my iPhone 8 Plus and headphones.
After graduating high school, I stopped producing regular episodes of Digging Deep Podcast—I only put out new episodes when I went home from college during breaks. However, it wasn’t long until I arrived at a crossroad… I wanted to continue podcasting, but I also was losing interest in the way I was podcasting and what I was speaking about on my podcast.
To that end, I took about a year-and-half off from podcasting. It was during my time away from podcasting that I fell in love with the Enneagram. Of course, there were already a lot of podcasts about the Enneagram out there. But I wanted to go deeper.
You see, the biggest issue that I had with the Enneagram when I first found out about my freshman year of college was how people talked as if it put them in a box (sidenote… this made me want to abolish the Enneagram). But even though know I didn’t know much about the Enneagram at this time, it just didn’t sit right with that it was to box you in… I always felt like the Enneagram had a bigger purpose.
Therefore, Enneagram Restored Podcast was born.
And the whole idea behind Enneagram Restored Podcast can be found within the tagline… “The Enneagram doesn’t define you, but it does bring restoration. It helps reshape your thinking and habits.”
In the next issue: Surgery and a premiere… the premiere of Enneagram Restored Podcast.
