There’s no need to fret! There is not an actual project. Well… at least not one that’s for a grade. The Narrative & Reflection Project is the opportunity for you and me to practice our writing skills and share the beauty of our minds with others.
At the beginning of each month, I will post a series of weekly prompts. The prompts may be all narratives, all reflections, or a mix of both—it just depends on what feels right. And at the end of each week on Friday night, I will post my story.
Now, here’s the project part… the sharing part. I know that sharing your work can be intimidating. The possibility of having others judge your stories (even though that’s not the purpose) can be scary. But I want to encourage you in joining me in sharing the stories that we craft at the end of each week. If it brings you any comfort, know that this isn’t my attempt to try and embarrass you.
This is an opportunity for you share the beauty that is your mind through your stories. This is a space to be open to the creative process and to allow your story to be heard, whether it’s completely fictional or based on your real life. I want you to know that there will be no judgement—this is not a contest nor is it for a grade—but there will be acceptance of your story and appreciation for you being open and vulnerable enough to share your story with all of us.
Let’s talk about the “project requirements.”
THE NARRATIVE & REFLECTION PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
The only guardrail that I’m establishing is that your stories cannot exceed five paragraphs (3-5 sentences per paragraph). You don’t have to strive for five paragraphs; you just can’t do more than five paragraphs.
That is the only requirement, but I do hope that you will take time throughout the week to think about the weekly prompt. And I do hope that you will share your story with us each Friday night.
I hope you’ll join in when the first prompts go live. Until then, take a moment to think about the stories you want to tell—the ones that have been waiting for the right moment to be written. The first set of prompts is coming soon, and I can’t wait to see where they take us.
