“Why in the heck did I write this prompt?”
That’s my first thought—but I may have used some more colorful language—every time I try to think about two accomplishments that I’m proud of from April 2025. I can’t understand why I chose this topic as one of the prompts for the May/June Ed. of The Narrative & Reflection Project, especially when I knew from the get-go that I had no answer to this prompt.
Or, at least that’s what I thought prior to the morning of June 5, 2025…
Every day I get an email from The Enneagram Institute with an EnneaThought for the Day. The purpose of these emails is to basically have something to think about that is aligned with your Enneagram Type. And the EnneaThought for today (I spent all day yesterday trying to answer the prompt) says, “Remember it’s not accumulating accolades that produces transformation, but self-knowledge and awareness. Don’t try to change your reactions today. It’s enough to see them more clearly.” When I saw this email this morning, I immediately knew that that’s why I picked this prompt.
For the past 2-3 years, I’ve been trying to align myself and do things that I want and love to do, and not do things because others expected them from me. Which is a tough thing to do as an Enneagram Three because it’s easy to feed the core desire of a Three when you do what others expect—it’s easier to get accolades that way. And I think that’s what the Spirit is trying to tell me… that the meaningful work that I want to accomplish isn’t always going to win accolades, which is going to be a knife through my Enneagram Three heart, but it’s the why behind I may or not win an accolade that matters.

I love enneagrams! It could also be that you become successful once you look for praise and validation from yourself instead of from others. Just a random thought! I’m not an expert or anything but I am an enneagram 4 - thanks for sharing :)
