I have always longed to be an author, and now that I have seriously began that process, I’m speechless.

Now, I have to admit that I have started many drafts of manuscripts in my lifetime—if I had kept up with all of them, then I could probably fill my living from floor to ceiling. But none of my previously started drafts (even the idea of the manuscripts) have felt right. But this book—let’s call it The Mystery Book until I’m ready to reveal the actual title—has just hit all the right notes.

From the moment the idea was conceived, I knew that this would be the first book that would leave the depths of my mind and become a physical book.

What is The Mystery Book about?

Well… I can’t go in depth about it, but what I can say is that it is about interior design. But it also isn’t your typical interior design book because it’s not actually about interior design.

Now, that I’ve left you with that cliffhanger, I want to tell you about some of the key dates so far in my writing process… I mean after all, The Writer’s Room is a portrayal of my journey of becoming an author.

The writing process all began with the preliminary research phase on September 24, 2024.

I can honestly say that when I began my preliminary research, I had no idea how much quality information I was going to find. However, there has been so much information that I would have never thought I would have found that supports the thesis of The Mystery Book.

This next part that I’m about to tell you about makes me want to brag on myself… why the heck not… I’m going to brag on myself because I actually met my goal way before the date I had set!

My goal was to begin writing the draft manuscript by mid-May because with the little amount of free time I have in my schedule I didn’t think that I would have enough research done to start writing before then.

But I surprised myself and started writing the draft on March 22, 2025. And it happened at Architect Coffee (Springfield, MO). Architect has always been my preferred coffee shop since I moved to Springfield—but it's also the only one I’ve ever felt drawn to by some greater, unknown force.

Here’s the part I didn’t expect.

I didn’t expect to feel nothing about putting words on the page. I had imagined that when I finally started the draft, I would feel so giddy on the inside; however, I just felt meh. Don’t get me wrong; I was excited about starting the draft, but I wasn’t as excited as I thought I would be.

Emotions aside, I was able to get about 2 pages drafted within like 45 minutes.

That’s as far as the journey goes for now. I hope to reach the end of the journey and publish the book by the Spring of 2027—but only time will tell.

The BW Printing Press is a reader-supported publication.
